We deliver a high quality, year round programme of classes, workshops and activities in Japanese music, dance and crafts so people can learn and experience these art forms. We encourage an atmosphere of mutual respect and kindness, and operate from a place of genuine love for what we do.
We are passionate about taiko drumming, the power of dance and music, the joy it brings to those who play it and those who see it. While teaching Taiko is our primary activity, our repertoire includes practical skills in performance, dance, manga, origami, haiku and language.
We create the only Obon festival in the UK! On an evening in early summer, we turn a beautiful park into our own ‘Little Tokyo’ and bring together people of all ages and stages, from all areas and walks of life, to celebrate family and friendship with music and dance, food and crafts, and a beautiful lantern ceremony as the daylight fades.
How the Coronavirus has impacted our work…
Sadly, due to Covid 19 we have had to cancel our 2020 Obon Festival. However, we have adapted our programmes so that we can continue to teach Taiko drumming online. We are also working on new projects such as our Community Lantern Project. We are planning an online festival for August (watch this space for details!). We are running our popular ‘Quarantine Taiso‘ three mornings a week to keep everyone connected whilst also keeping them fit! We have plans for a virtual Bon Odori as well as some online traditional singing.
We are making the most of this situation, finding new ways to work and new ways to keep spreading the #taikolove, at a time when we all really need it. Keep safe everyone!
