The Hannari Club is a group of Japanese dancers of all ages who are based in the Carrickfergus area. There is a strong Japanese community in this area due to the location of the manufacturing company Ryobi. Japanese employees and their families relocate to the area from Japan for three years. The women and children are encouraged to join the Hannari Dance Club as a way to meet other people, have fun, and share their culture to the Northern Ireland community.
Foyle O-Bon has strong links with the Hannari Club and every year they bring a large group to our festival to perform a variety of traditional Japanese dances. We are so appreciative of all the hard work and preparation that goes in to their performances. They bring such joy and creativity to our stage.
We are delighted that members of Hannari club, young and not so young, are joining us each week for our Quarantine Taiso session! Hannari Club are also working on their on contribution to our online content for 2020.
