Since our inception, we have been fortunate to welcome some of the best Taiko players from around the world to our city. They have shared their knowledge and passion with our groups and have been inspirational to all our players. They have included members of the world famous Japanese Taiko group ‘Kodo’, Eiichi Saito and Eri Uchida.
We also welcomed Karen Young, taiko player, community builder, and Director of Genki Spark Taiko in Boston. Lucy Thomas and Jonathan Kirby, founder and artistic director of UK based Kagemusha Taiko, Yeeman Mui, taiko artist from California, USA who came to work with our young people around the theme of community, 4 members of the fabulous San Jose Taiko team from the USA who performed and held workshops for Foyle O-Bon 2019. Chizuko and Kenny Endo, one of the world’s leading artists in contemporary Taiko and percussion visited in 2019.
The world famous taiko artist Shogo Yoshii was meant to be visiting us for our Obon festival 2020. Once again, Coronavirus put a stop to this but Shogo has been busy creating a brand new Taiko piece just for us. This promises to be something very special and we can’t wait to learn it and share it with everyone at Obon 2021!
